Neutral Cup Venues
I wanted to know what people thought about cup matches being played at actual venues, instead of at an unnamed neutral venue as it stands.
What I am suggesting is that the matches be played at an actual club ground, which would be announced at the start of the season. As a result the hosting stadium would be rewarded with extra income, gate receipts, etc. which would not only benefit the club, but provide more scope for transfers and activity.
European Competitions including Super Cup
The semi-finals are shared equally between the British and European Leagues, getting one match each in the Champions League, Europa Cup and Super Cup. Since there are three finals they are distributed with one league hosting one final each, and the last final alternating every other year.
FA Cup
The domestic semi-finals are shared, with one match played at a second tier ground and the other played at a top flight stadium. The final is hosted in a Division 1/Serie A ground.
League Cup
The domestic League Cups are hosted solely by teams in the second tier of their respective leagues, with clubs from either Division 2 or Serie B holding both semi-finals and final.
That means each season;
Division 1 6 Games – FA Cup Final & one Semi-Final, 4 European Games
Division 2 4 Games – British League Cup, 1 FA Cup Semi-Final
Serie A 6 Games – FA Cup Final & one Semi-Final, 4 European Games
Serie B 4 Games – European League Cup, 1 FA Cup Semi-Final
with the last European game switching between the British and European Leagues every other year.
I would also suggest;
- Teams that are relegated from Division 1/Serie A are exempt from hosting League Cup games that year, as they may have held European Competition matches the previous season, getting an advantage over the existing Serie B club.
I think it would provide a little more realism to Necom, with the stadia and matches chosen at pre-season, most probably when the group stages of the Super Cup are played. Therefore from the start of the season each club knows that the finals, and semi-finals, will be played at a certain location. It also provides twenty one different clubs with extra income, towards the end of the year. This would be especially beneficial for Division 2/Serie B clubs.
Presumably the club hosting the Champions League Final would gain more than those providing the venue for a League Cup Semi-Final, but I’m sure a set sliding scale could be drawn up if Mr. Necom thinks of adopting the idea.
I’m sure people will have their own considerations on it too, and this is only my first go at thinking it through, but let me know what your first thoughts are.
Cheers for taking the time to read this,
