despite believing that NONE of the young players i could/would release if limits were imposed would get a game elsewhere...
even with derby and our long-term commitment to younger players i'm starting to feel GUILTY re "HOARDING"...
and will be releasing/auctioning 40 PLUS players over the next few turns until we are down to just 50 players.
given that all are 22 yrs or younger, and more than a third (17 of 49) are TEENS, i think this is a number i can feel ok about...
partly because i still feel that players in that 31-60 area would still struggle to get any first team action at another managed club...
but, yes, i will "miss" the others, not least cos they are players i've had an eye on in real life, but they are the ones less likely to get a game --even with me -- so they should/will be the ones to leave...
I don't think you should make any hasty decisions; any players that are happy to stay with you should be allowed to stay.
This is all just discussion at the moment. I put in the counter last night that will show how long players have been on the REQ list for. Over the next few weeks you'll see those climb from zero (all players will start at zero however long they've been there for). Maybe on its own that change might make a difference, I'll go and post a bit more in the thread I made to discuss that topic.
What I was thinking about here was more than just a simple limit to your squad size. There's no way the squad sizes are going to be reduced just for the sake of it without any other changes. It needs to be done in conjunction with other features that make those non first team players more important. Suppose you were limited to just two squads of 30 players, a first team squad and a development squad, but they were presented better - the second squad printed out at the same size as the first for a start and somehow we brought in matches for the development squad which actually meant something and that you all joined in with. These matches would give morale boosts to players rated below a certain rating or below a certain age, you'd have a full return sheet with the option for all tactical changes; maybe even a next opponents sheet on whomever your next development squad opponents were. Would that make up for the fact that you were having to reduce your development squad by 20 or 30 players?
Or are most of you not really bothered, and would probably only concentrate on the first team anyway so it doesn't really matter...
