TELFORD UNITED SUPPORTERS LIMITED
PRESS STATEMENT
27TH MAY 2004
Following the regrettable announcement from the Directors of Telford United Football Ltd regarding the liquidation of the club, the interim board of Telford United Supporters Limited would like to stress that they fully understand the decision. This has been a difficult time for the directors, employees and supporters alike.
The Interim Board of the Trust have worked very closely with Telford United Football Club since dialogue began with the directors two weeks ago. The Trust have explored all possible avenues in an attempt to put sufficient finance into place to ensure the long term future of the football club. Sadly, despite our tireless efforts, we were unable to do this. The debts of the football club have been well documented and in order to maintain conference football for next season and to salvage the club would have required a substantial six-figure sum which has proved beyond the current fund raising scope of the trust.
We are deeply saddened at today’s outcome and we have been shocked by the apparent financial mis-management of the club prior to 25th March 2004 and the unwillingness of a minority of the playing staff to come to reasonable settlement agreements during recent negotiations. We do, however, wish all the players who were prepared to negotiate on a sensible basis all the best for their future careers and thank them for their efforts whilst here at Telford United.
We would like to thank all fundraisers for their hard work so far and urge all supporters to continue supporting Telford United Supporters Trust.
The wheels have been set in motion with regard to the formation of a new club which should be confirmed within the next 24 hours. This will hopefully provide the vehicle for football in Telford to re-enter into Non League football, the level of which is as yet unknown. Encouraging dialogue has been opened with the FA and other partners in relation to this.
