A few months ago managed teams were given byes in the first round of their domestic League and FA Cups, with a view to prospective changes in the cup schedule in the near future.
To that end the FA Cup is up for discussion, and the proposed changes, as they will impact other facets of the Game.
FA CUP 1ST ROUND
Neil has had a longstanding desire to have an FA Cup only turn, where there are no league matches played at all - similar to the FA Cup 3rd Round in January. Clearly this would have to be the 1st Round in Necom, to ensure that all managers still have a match that turn, and there are two options being touted to facilitate the change.
An increase in the league schedule is the first and easiest option, basically extending the season to twenty three weeks. Having two league matches in one turn - probably preceding or following the FA Cup turn - is the other option, maintaining the league schedule to twenty two weeks.
An extension would impact pay-per-turn Games and their managers', whereas the exact programming implications (or alterations) to provide two league matches in a single turn are unclear - as well as how injuries, suspensions, team selections, etc. are impacted (lots of managers will remember the issues involved in the three matches a turn Game years ago)
FA CUP FINAL
Currently the FA Cup is held on Week 22, sharing the turn with the Champions League Final. The Final is something Neil wants to have full focus on, enjoying the limelight of cup results on it's own. So the proposal is to switch the Final to Week 21 (in a twenty two week season) or Week 22 (depending if the season is increased to twenty three turns) but having the final as a stand-alone event that mid-week.
Managers are invited to discuss the above proposals, and moreover to provide their own solutions to the problems as they see them.
Please try and get involved with the debate, as there's little point in complaining about changes that may happen in the future without voicing your views or suggestions here beforehand.
