Hey Lads,
There have been discussions recently regarding the current qualification process for European places, and what changes there might be to it.
Many managers have called for the winners of the Europa League to gain qualification for the following season's Champions League competition - similar to real-life changes - but this causes one major problem. Basically if the Europa League winners play in Europe's elite competition the next year a place will have to be given from an existing source.
The simplest way to do this is to give the place that is currently given to the runners up of the federation where the Europa League comes from. In essence if Manchester United win the Europa League the Champions League place that would have gone to the Premier League's runners-up at season's end is claimed by them instead.
That means that qualifiers for the Champions League will be;
Champions League Winners
Europa League Winners
Super Cup Winners
Premier League Winners
Serie A Winners
British FA Cup Winners
European FA Cup Winners
Runner-Up of the federation where the Europa League Winners are NOT from
So, the question is what do managers think?
Please post your comments in reply below, as this is a change that may well happen in the immediate term should there be enough interest in it. Alternatively if there is outweighing opposition to it this is the forum, and time, to voice it. Of course if you think a suitable alternative is possible this is the place to make those suggestions.
There's no poll 'cause people's views are more visible instead of a simple yes or no click of a button.
Please get involved.
Cheers Lads.
Chat, banter and discussion is welcomed because this is an important topic, but one person's voice is as valid as the next - try and keep it somewhat respectable; shouting someone down will not be tolerated
