As the Manager walked into the conference room the assembled press settled into their seats, awaiting clarification and answers. ‘I understand that every single Bayern supporter will be utterly devastated tonight, and rightly so. Relegation is the worst possible scenario; for the fans, for everyone involved with this historic club.’
‘There is no hiding the fact that this season’s performance simply hasn’t been good enough. I take full responsibility; for results, unsuitable tactics and the disastrous predicament that the club finds itself in now.’
‘I offered my resignation to the Board immediately after the Napoli game, once our demotion was confirmed following the other matches. The Chairman and I had a frank conversation on our way back from Naples, and things were very plainly, strongly laid out. We agreed to tear up my existing contract, and replaced it with a rolling year-long deal. The terms of the arrangement are very simple; instant promotion. Anything less and we’ll be parting ways, and there’s nothing more to it.’
‘The process is straightforward. There will be changes made, both in terms of playing personnel, backroom staff and general approach. Conversely our more appreciated assets will be retained, in an effort to stave off interest from other clubs, and to ensure that our best players are kept here. To that end the club have wasted no time in confirming new long term contracts for club captain Philipp Lahm, midfielder Franck Ribery and striker Karim Benzema, tying them to the club for another three seasons. Coupled with the recent agreements reached with Joe Hart, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Daniele De Rossi the nucleus of the first team is set, and hopefully they’ll propel us to promotion at the first time of asking.’
‘In terms of new signings there are a few players of interest, and there are discussions on at the moment with a number of clubs. Although I can’t see too many changes for the start of the season there will be quite a few additions, but a number of players will be leaving too, so it’ll be interesting times.’
‘There will be no more comment at this time.’
