Players
What is a players' 'overall' value, and how is it worked out?
Each player has a set of 7 statistics rated out of 95, those stats added together and divided by 7 give a player his 'overall' value. The higher a player's overall, the better and more expensive he will be.
Is there any benefit to having a player who's 285 positionally and 85ov, over a player who's 285 positionally and 78ov?
Yes. whilst in theory they may look like they should perform identically, the player with the higher overall value has extra positional points attributed to his other 4 statistics, and will therefore be a better all-round player. You may find that your players require statistics in areas other than the 'main' three.
I have a player who's a striker in real life, however in Necom, his best position is TM - shouldn't this be corrected?
No. Each and every player in each game has their own set of stats. Whilst a player may well start his Necom life as a TM, you're able to use the coaches in your squad to tailor him to wherever you like. If you'd prefer him to be an ST, use the appropriate coaches on him and over time he'll learn his new skills.
I have a player who's 285ST 86ov, but he doesn't score goals. Someone else has a 245ST 79ov who can't stop scoring!
This could be for many reasons - your team's style, aggression and formation perhaps. Your players form, fitness and happiness. It could also be that even though he's a 285ST, playing as a ST isn't his most natural position, or he's not getting the right support from the rest of your team. Try playing him elsewhere and see if that helps.
Of course Peter Crouch scored a hatload of goals last season for Southampton, so lower overall players do occasionally outshine their more illustrious counterparts...
How do I add a player to the main database?
You need to provide Necom with the players full name, real life club, DoB, position, and some tangible evidence that the player actually exists. If you're sending it in by post, print something off the internet that corroborates your evidence, or cut something out of a magazine. If you're doing it by email then send him a URL to the website that corroborates your facts.
He'll be added to the database at some point, but you'll have to use one of your scouts to bring him into your squad. If he doesn't find him the first turn - try next turn, Neil might not have added him yet.
And don't tell anyone who you've added, or you'll probably find he'll be somewhere else by the time you get him...
Transfers
Can you buy / loan injured players ?
You can if they are injured for less than 4 weeks. If it’s more than that, then you’ll need to wait…
If I change a players position, what rating is he likely to drop down to?
Players whose positions are changed are likely to drop 2-4 overall points. The ratings of staff members sadly drop all the way to zero and they have to start learning their new skill from scratch.
I had a player on the auction list and received many bids all over the asking price so why didnt the player transfer to the highest bidder?
A player on the auction list will move to the highest bidder.
At least in most cases.
There are a few exceptions -
- If the bidding club doesn't have enough money to fund their offer, it will be refused
- If the player is on weeks, he won't go anywhere.
- If the players contract is 10 weeks or less he won't go anywhere.
- If the player is injured more than 4 weeks he won't go anywhere
- If the offer is below the asking price he was put on the list for, it will be refused.
- If the offer is above the maximum amount the player can move for (the amount above which you'd get a message saying 'Price Too High') it will be refused.
Other than that, highest bid only. The player gets no say in the matter whatsoever.
I have a player who's worth £30m but he's only a 79ov, what's going on?
In order to facilitate the transfer of players that managers may otherwise horde for the future, the 'potential value' has been introduced. The value tends to be given to players like Lionel Messi, and Freddy Adu, who have enormous potential value in the future, but for the moment haven't done enough to warrant an overall rating increase to match that value.
Contracts
If you have a player injured for 15 weeks and his contract runs out in 12, will he sign a new deal whilst out injured?
Being injured doesn't affect whether or not he'll sign a new deal - if he's happy he'll sign whether injured or not. However, his contract won't run out in 12 weeks, as when a player is injured and has less than 10 weeks left on his contract, the contract freezes until he is fit again.
I signed a player and he's now low on weeks and has never been happy. Will I lose him?
Yes, if a player's contract reaches 0 he will be placed on the out of contracts list the following turn, and you will lose him for nothing. Various methods have been tried in order to get a player to be happy, making him team captain, free kick taker, penalty taker etc. may produce results, equally, he might be persuaded to sign on for an extremely lucrative paydeal.
Is there a maximum contract I can offer a player?
Yes, whilst it's never been specified, it's somewhere around the £600,000k a week mark. Bear in mind, that whilst in theory it might sound like a good idea to bid that much for a player, you'll have to pay him that for the duration of his contract (over 20 weeks, that'll work out to £13m). If you sell the player, you'll have to pay up the remainder of his contract, and that will be taken from the transfer fee. In practice there are very few players you'd ever want to pay that sort of contract to buy.
Club Staff
How Do I Get Coaches / Physios / Scouts
Use an older player in your team that you think will be ready to give up playing. In the TRANSFERS section of your return sheet write this
[Player Name] [Player Number] RETRAIN JOB
Where JOB is either PHYSIO, SCOUT or one of the 20 different coaching options (see your rulebook for a table of those)
How do I get real-life coaches / physios / scouts?
Scout the person you want to employ. If he's on the database in your game, you can attempt to recruit him using the normal methods. If he's not found on the database, you'll need to provide the person's details to Neil with your turn (with evidence from a website, or a newspaper cutting), and scout him the following week.
How Do I Improve The Ratings of My Staff?
Simply get them doing some training. In the staff actions section of the return sheet, write down
TRAIN [Staff Number]
You only need to do this once – they’ll keep training each week until you give them another job to do.
Can you buy / sell members of staff?
Yes you can - they have an extremely small intrinsic value though, so you're probably better off loaning them in, or training your own up.
Are individual members of staff restricted to one order per turn?
Yes they are
Can I put multiple members of staff on one player?
Yes you can, although the chances of any/all of them working diminish with each coach you ask to train that player.
Feeder Teams
What are feeder teams?
Feeder teams are a place for your main team to send out players in order to get their morale and fitness levels up, keep their morale up and so on. Maybe try out formations and tactics. You can transfer players to and from a feeder team for no fee, and no weeks go on the player. Feeder teams play in their own division (they can’t get promoted or relegated) though they do get to enter the cup competitions. Feeder teams start with no money and no first team players of note (they’ll have a few reserve and youth players of no significant value).
Can a player signed by the main club but on weeks move to the feeder team ?
Yes he can
Can a player who has completed a term at feeder club be sent direct to main clubs reserves or youth team rather than first team ?
No, he goes into the first team squad. You’ll have to move him to the reserves the following turn.
Can feeder clubs do direct transfers with other clubs ?
Yes they can. Any money they spend (or indeed any money they make - including sales of players and prize money) is given to the main team.
How do I transfer a player from my main side to my feeder team?
Simply write
[Player Name] [Player Number] [To <name of feeder team>] in the transfers section of the return sheet, eg.
Sidwell 2587 To Coventry
You don't need to write anything in the amount column.
it doesn't matter if the player appears in your 1st team squad, reserves or your youth side - they'll go to the feeder team 1st team squad.
If you're transfering from your feeder, then it's the same in reverse
[Player Name] [Player Number] [To <name of main team>]
eg. Dominquez 1548 To Milan
This will transfer the player from your feeder into your main team. If you want him to be in the reserve/youth side, you'll have to use another transfer slot to move him as follows:
[Player Name] [Player Number] [To Reserves/Youth]

How do you line up tables in your posts?
The easiest way is to use PRE and /PRE tags around your tables and then add spaces to make things line up. Here’s an example of how you would lay that out…
Loyalty Points
How Do I Collect Loyalty Points ?
Each turn you are manager of your team in League Soccer, you are awarded 100 Loyalty Points. You can also get extra Loyalty Points – for paying £20 into your account you get 1000 extra points, and for paying in £50 you get 5000 points. If you manage a national side and win the World Cup, we’ll give you 5000 Loyalty Points.
What Can I Get With My Loyalty Points ?
You can trade your Loyalty Points in for some credit for a free turn in the game, or some cash for your club. 1000 points earns you £2.00 credit for your necom account (credited to your account the day after your turn is run). 1000 points could also be used to earn an extra £1 million for your club side. Save up more points, and earn your club more money – 2000 points gets your club £2 ½ million whilst if you can save up 5000 points you can have £10 million for your team.

New Games
Are you setting up any new games in the near future?
Probably not. However, old games are often revamped and totally updated squads are sometimes available in those. A notice will be listed on the boards at this point and teams given out on a strictly first come first served basis.
Is it possible to reserve a side that may come available in the future?
No it isn't, sorry
Is it possible to set up my own private game?
Yes it is! We will set up a closed game of League Soccer for anyone that wants one, subject to the game having at least two manged teams in it. However, ALL managed teams in the game must be paid for in advance at a rate of £40.00 per season. New managers can only join with the permission of the person initiating the game, and can do so only at the end of the season (and on payment of £40 for a full season). All other rules for the game are the same as every other League Soccer game. We will not set up a noticeboard here for a closed game - since other managers can't join in - but you are welcome to devise your own.
