Because I'm guessing the first online meeting will mainly be about ratings I think we need to think about how to improve the whole rating system rather than talk about individual players rating.
Here's an idea I've just thought about. It might be rubbish but I thought it's worth typing it out for everyone to see and comment on. It might just get people thinking about overall improvements rather then individual players ratings.
Each time a player is scouted into a game he should be rated (by vote) by each manager from all the games. If you've heard of the player before then rate him else say something like 'use the standard rating system'.
The votes will not be displayed and the voting threads should be locked to stop people added their own comments, this will hopefully stop your mind being changed by someone saying how crap/good that player is.
All Neil needs to do gets the system to write out a list of newly added players to the main database, and create a vote post on the boards containing just the player's name. It's up to you to research him on the internet/magazines etc and then vote. The post will be on a timer so you've only got say a month to vote. Once the vote is closed the player will be re-rated based on the vote at a scheduled date at Neils updated the ratings. For example this could be the 1st Wednesday of every month.
I'm guessing that the average rating will probably be used, or the standard rating system if managers forget to vote/haven't heard of the player before.
With regards to the existing players in the database, we could say that they can be voted on every 3 months and the voting/re-rating would be done on the say structure as the newly scouted players.
Of course Neil would have the final say on a players rating but this would help him if he hasn't heard of the player before. We might even be able to trial it in a test game where the voting thread has the final say and not Neil (just a thought).
